Suddenly last night I thought of looking for some pre-loved G30 530ds and found a few, but one caught my eye.
BHPian Jangra recently shared this with other enthusiasts.
I am currently jumping from one chain of thought to another. Around last December I almost closed on Kodiaq, then I thought Kodiaq = Tiguan + 7 years of fuel (my operation is 10k per year), so I booked a Tiguan. Suddenly last night I thought of looking for some pre-loved G30 530ds and found a few, but one caught my eye. A gray 2019 M Sport 530d, with 17k on the ODO, warranty until June 2023 and no BSI quoting 56L.
Now, this one is seriously a decision of the heart over the head. I’ve always bought a new car that saved me all the “what if” thoughts. I also don’t know all the details a reader can tell me how it is and therefore cold feet. But, if I negotiate this right, this one will cost me 65% of the new one.
I can “almost” afford this car, and I can certainly afford 1-1.5L per year if it’s this one. And that special feeling of owning a car that I’ve always wanted.
Some questions :
- Your 2 cents on my thought process.
- Should I just tell the dealer that I want this car inspected by Navnit Motors? And should I mention anything specific to the BMW Service Advisor about what I want done?
- If I call the current insurance for this car, will they let me know if there have been any major claims? I mean, why would they?
(My apologies if these questions are answered somewhere)
One thing I like about pre-2020 models is the “out of speed warnings”, which in BMWs are very loud, just as annoying in other cars. Is it just me?
I took the TD of the car I mentioned, it was tight and unchanged. Oh man! power held me back. Although Bandra Kurla was busy and couldn’t have a long empty period, but that was enough to understand why GTO is so impressed with this machine. All electronics worked as expected. Two observations were:
- 2 inch dent on the left front bumper just below the headlights.
- A scratch on the left headlight mentioned by the dealer is above the PPF.
I guess they are not deal breakers.
The car comes with zero dep insurance expiring on November 22.
The warranty was incorrectly stated as expiring June 23, the correct one is December 22.
The car was purchased and registered in Jun-19, but the month of manufacture is Dec-18.
Question – Do you have any idea how much to extend the warranty beyond December 22, for 1, 2 OR 3 years?
Decision making begins.
Here is what GTO should say about it:

An almost new car. With the guarantee, your risk is zero. Follow our used car checklist (including maintenance history, checking past insurance claims, etc.) and you should be set.

Just let them know you want a pre-purchase inspection done, at your expense. It shows seriousness. But first agree the price with the dealer.

It depends on your persuasive skills. Or you can ask your insurance broker to get the information. That’s what I did.

Takes 5 minutes to remove via coding.

This part is a bit suspicious.
Ideally, the warranty starts on the day of delivery and not the day of manufacture. Also, why does the insurance expire in November if the vehicle was purchased in June?
I wouldn’t be surprised if it was an unregistered TD vehicle that was then sold to the ‘first owner’ as that is commonplace with many manufacturers.
Have it inspected at an authorized workshop, and if you have contact with a service advisor through a friend: ask about this discrepancy from December 2018 to June 2019. They will also help extend the BSI.

Please call and ask BMW, right? The easiest.
In addition, on the service registers, BMW keeps them centrally. I recommend that you do a paid inspection with them so that you are completely sure.
By the way, this deal can be made for less than 50L. It is retained by the dealer on a 2% commission basis (i.e. not bought by him but sold for the owner on a commission basis). I think your deal could be done within 50 liters including commission plus whatever it costs for the extended warranty, which I highly recommend you get.
Seems like a lot for a 6-cylinder 5-series. I’d say go for it if you don’t run into any red flags.
Here is what BHPian androdev should say about it:
Do not pay a deposit or post-dated check. You are already paying for the PPI, which shows your genuine interest. You can show other ways to establish that you are a legitimate prospect – your occupation, address, other cars you own, reference, etc. can convince the dealer that you should be taken seriously. Give your offer to the dealer and tell them that the offer is subject to obtaining a no-fault report from ASC. Don’t part with your money until it’s all wrapped up. Being paranoid isn’t just okay, it’s very necessary. Have no fear of losing a lot. It’s very simple: a car that is registered shortly after manufacture and has all scheduled maintenance history (nothing more, nothing less) is a minimum requirement if you don’t want to roll the dice. I tell people I’m only looking for a fair depreciation discount and nothing more. I’m happy to be the highest bidder for a clean car.
